This is an Austin Powers fruit machine which I rescued and im restoring at the moment. The “no lose feature” is identified by the flashing “Austin Powers” words at the top of the machine and the “lady” to the right of the reels also flash – you cannot lose whatever you spin so use this to work up to Jackpot.
Austin Powers: Welcome To My Underground Lair! |

Developer: Tarantula Studios This game has hidden development-related text. |
This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion. Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article? |
To do: Check to see if any of this is in Austin Powers: Oh, Behave! Also, there's possible graphics for an unused developer credits screen. There appears to be something at 0x0209DD. |
Released at the height of Pokémania and the trendiness of having more than a single version of a game, Welcome To My Underground Lair! is functionally identical to Oh, Behave!, only with a Dr. Evil theme rather than an Austin Powers theme.
Game Version
A function to display the game version can be accessed by entering VERS in the EVIL-DOS prompt. It displays the game's code name and the build date, and can be exited by pressing any button. Upon exit, you will be taken back to the EVIL-DOS screen.
Development Text
At 0x00AE0D in the ROM there is a regular 'Take 2 Interactive' hidden copyrights message:
Below, at 0x00AE35 there is an internal developer game code:
Development Structures
Austin Powers Fruit Machine As Seen On Tv
At 0x00AE41 follows the specific game initialization structure common for many Tarantula's games. The structure contains a list of RAM addresses of internal game variables, each followed by the list of its bit-flags or values along with its internal ASCII names. These names are just for readability purposes of the game sources and just skipped by the game itself while it runs this list and sets the according variables at the game's initialization.
For this particular game the list of settings is listed below.
- For RAM address $FFBF (internal game settings)
- 'No key skip' (bit.4 set)
- 'Language select' (bit.5 set)
- 'Copyright scr' (bit.6 set
- For RAM address' $C227
- 'Sound On/Off' (value $FF set)
