Buffalo is a sports crazed city, which they prove by supporting two major sports teams (Bills and Sabres), in a city with a population under 300,000. The city has continued to support both teams even though they are aching for a championship in either sport. The Buffalo Bills began competitive play in 1960 and have not been able to win a Super Bowl for the city, even after making it to the big game four years in a row from 1990-1993. The Sabres began play just a decade later in 1970 and although they’ve made it to the finals 3 times they also have failed to win the Stanley Cup on each of those occasions. The Sabres are in a rebuild phase, but the silver lining for the city of Buffalo may be that the Bills finally have a franchise quarterback in Josh Allen, and look like they will be a Super Bowl contender for the foreseeable future. One thing is for sure: the city of Buffalo continues to believe in both teams through the ups and downs.
Sports betting has gained a great deal of popularity in Buffalo over the past decade with residents feeling increasingly comfortable betting on sports online through sites like BetOnline.ag or SportsBetting.ag, both of which I will outline below. On this page I will also shed some light on the legality of sports betting in New York State and also look the land based locations in and around Buffalo where you can place horse racing wagers.
Is Sports Betting Legal In Buffalo?
The easiest way to answer this question is in two parts…
#1. Running a Sports Betting Operation is Illegal
It is not legal to run a sportsbook in the state of New York. This applies to both land based and online betting sites operating within the State.
#2. Placing Bets Through Offshore Sportsbooks Is Allowed
While it’s illegal to operate a betting site in New York, it is NOT illegal for residents to join and place bets through an offshore betting site. These sites, like the two I recommend below, are licensed and regulated outside of the United States, which enables them to offer their services to American residents.
Best Sportsbooks for Buffalo Residents
The following two sportsbooks are the most popular and reputable betting sites used by New York residents. I strongly suggest placing your sports bets through one of these two sportsbooks if you reside in Buffalo.
BetOnline.ag is our top rated site for New York players. They primarily cater to the American market and this focus allows them to build a betting platform that meets the needs of the typical American bettor from a customer service, bet offerings and deposit/withdrawal options standpoint.
